There is a necessary process in any communication process. It is the sending of messages from one place to another. It is a very simple way to explain the communication process.
But the communication process has developed in many ways. Under more complex conditions, in the present someone wants to send messages, then they will send messages under formatted way using some techniques. There, the idea is applied to a variety of symbols and shapes. And then they should also use a medium to send the message. The receiver of the message should also recognize the pre-sent symbols and shapes. The receiver has to respond to a message. Accordingly, there has been some technical interference in the communication process. Thus, the above three parts of communication were changing in a proper way. So, that simple model has become complicated with the evolution of communication.
Expansion of the communication process
The communication process has been hanging around for a long time. As above mentioned, the communication process is updating in proper ways in this communication century. This process can be identified in many forms – verbal, non-verbal, written, visual, audio, formal, informal. A variety of media is currently involved in the communication process in each of these forms. Most of these media use one or more of the above forms of communication.
The rise and evolution of communication is not an isolated task. It is based on specific human needs. All of these forms of communication and media are the result of responding to human needs. The need for information and the publication of information are two strong human needs. This is why communication is an essential part of human existence.
Communication is an essential part of human behavior, so communicating selectively is a must. With the development of the communication process, we have seen that human behavior has become increasingly complex. Because of that complexity, the communication process is becoming more and more complex. Therefore, understanding all the above aspects is important for studying the communication process.
The parts of the communication process
Some communication analysts introduced a model. The following are some of the basic elements that are commonly considered to explain these parts.
Sender(Communicator)
No matter what the communication process model is, the sender is definitely in the communication process. In the broader professional communication process, we call him the communicator. He interacts with society through a communication process. He or She is sometimes a friend, a husband, a wife, a child, whatever a serviceman, speaker, singer, announcer, teacher, politician, writer, and reporter. Whoever he is, he needs to communicate with others in order to interact with society. He wants to express something to others. Then he is a messenger. If that is his profession, he is a professional communicator.
Source
If the communicator is a teacher, he or she has a set of concepts to teach his or her students. They are sometimes math concepts. It can be the rage of a language. It could be historical information. If a communicator is a writer, he needs to replicate what he has experienced and share it with a large number of people. If he is a reporter, it may be information about particular events that caught his eye or ear. A politician may be reminded of the work he has done for his people, or of the future program, he intends to do for them. In this way, we can identify sources that the communicator can explain.
Message
The communicator needs to convert the idea into a message. It could be an explanation, a lecture, an article, a photo, a piece of news, a movie or a story.
Encoding
This is the encoding of sending messages and turning them into messages. For example: In order for someone to express a thought, he must first decide in which language he expresses it. If he knows several languages, he should make that decision according to the language of the receiver. When sends the message in writing, he has to convert his thoughts into letters. If you present your idea with a poem, a drawing, or a film, you will have to adapt it to the media format. This process is called encoding.
Media
The communicator also has to use a medium to send his idea to the receiver. For example, if another person sits face to face and expresses an idea, speech becomes his medium. If he talks at a TV conference, television becomes his medium. The Internet becomes his media if he expresses his feelings and ideas.
Decoding
Decoding is the process of capturing the contents of the message. When the message is sent to the receiver, the communication process does not complete. The message encoded by the communicator must be decoded by the receiver. For example, to capture something written, the receiver must identify that language. If the receiver does not know the language, he will be unable to understand it. Then the decoding process does not work properly.
Noise
Communication disruptions caused by various obstacles that are called communication noise. Communication processes identify a number of obstacles, such as speaking in a language they do not understand, expressing something unknown, interrupting the message, and technical constraints on the message. These barriers can be grouped into three main categories.
- Definition noise
- Media noise
- Environmental noise
Definition noise
Definition noise is a barrier to the expression of ideas. The message may be difficult for the receiver to understand when the message, the sender is expressing is too far from the receiver’s knowledge. And also, if the idea of the communicator is confusing, it will be also difficult to understand.
Media noise
Caused by changes in media. Simply put, if a person who knows English and something tells in Sinhala, he will not be able to understand or decode the message. In that case, language has become a media noise. If the letters we send to someone are too problematic to read, the receiver will have difficulty reading them. In some cases, voice over the phone may be blurred due to the lack of signals. Media noise is also a bottleneck when Internet communications are interrupted when we communicate through the internet.
Environmental noise
Environmental noise is the environmental restrictions that a message receives. When we are talking to someone on a mobile phone, the noise from the surroundings can be called an environmental noise.
Receiver
The receiver of a communication process can be as varied as the communicator. The nature of the receiver varies according to the type and type of communication process. Sometimes he is part of a human relationship. Accordingly, he or she is a husband, a wife, a friend, sometimes a reader, a listener, a student, a follower. Whoever it is, he becomes a receiver in the process of communication. The receiver is a significant factor in the communication process. The receiver does not regularly capture all the messages he receives. He can come up with some difficulties and obstacles in decoding. Also, the nature of the message can change his nature. The following are some of the main factors that influence this change.
- Emotions
- Personality
- Education
- Believes
- Culture
Feedback
Feedback is an essential aspect of an advanced communication process. It is also impossible to communicate effectively without caring about feedback. Sometimes the message received by the communicator can be interrogated or challenged by the receiver. Sometimes the receiver gets various ideas for the development of the sender’s concepts. This feedback can help reorganize the communication process. Feedback is also crucial for a communicator to measure the success of their work.
